Meet Bethany Colleen

Bethany Colleen is a surrealist artist who works primarily with paint and ink to create emotive, wonder filled, and imaginative illustrations. Her unique art style stems from her love of seeing and sharing whimsical interpretations of the world. Each of her story-like images can elicit a variety of different interpretations.

Bethany enjoys working with a variety of mediums, including gouache, ink, and acrylic. She is drawn to mediums that depict bright colors that bring out her love for painting light, reflections, and her seemingly glowing subject matter.

She uses her personal experiences with Multiple Sclerosis, Autism, and mental health symptoms in many of her illustrations. Through her images she showcases the full spectrum of human emotions through her expression of animal life forms.

Bethany’s aim is to connect with the viewer through images that depict both experiences of hardship, as well as the resilience of the human spirit.

When I first met Beth and saw her work, I knew she was going to be a success as an artist. She is  not only detailed with her work but she puts her heart into it with a passion!  She has a whimsical way of making her art magic and a few surprises along the way yet she will work hard to create your vision which is what she did painting my grandchildren and pets into my home portrait. You won’t regret commissioning her to paint  a specific subject for you!

Knowing this amazing artist and calling her friend is wonderful. Having her draw you a meaningful and beautiful tattoo how you requested is beyond special.

“As long as I can remember I have loved to create. I also have always been a little bit odd in how I perceive the world around me.

I am an avid daydreamer and will regularly escape to play in my imagination. By combining my imaginative world with my passion for art I began painting these weird, obscure, and surreal images as an expression of deeper meanings.

I aim to create artwork that connects with the viewer by touching on collective human experiences (e.g. identity, joy, loss, grief, anxiety, depression, love, personal growth, etc.) in unique and interpretive ways. I hope my imagery may inspire lingering questions or feelings.

My goal with my artwork is that it will allow you to join me in my imagination, and ponder life in new perspectives!”

“What started out as a lifelong private hobby suddenly transitioned into a full time career during the 2020 lockdown. It was the extra push I needed, and such a blessing in disguise!”

“When I’m not painting I enjoy escaping into nature to be around the trees and animals. Nature is both my medication and muse.”
